Ok, so cheesy pop references to Sci-Fi series aside, let’s talk about giving yourself a Chill Out Pass sometimes.
This week one of younger clients told me about a system at his school where kids are given a Chill Out Pass. This is literally what it is called – a Chill Out Pass and I seriously love it.
As the holder of this pass, you get a chance to excuse yourself from the classroom at any time, without the teacher or other kids asking you questions why. This pass gives you 5 to 10 minutes of chilling outside, on your own to reset your thoughts.
How amazing is this? My first thought was that we all need a chill out pass sometimes.
Just picture this – giving yourself 5 or 10 or 30 minutes or even (heaven forbid) a whole day of uninterrupted time for yourself. I know many of you already do this. However, I know that too many people feel guilty for taking that time for a number of different reasons.
So let’s take it one step further – let’s give you this time but insist that you don’t have to explain to anyone else what you’re doing, why you’re doing it.
You don’t need to justify to anyone why you might need a bit of time to yourself. You don’t need to tell your partner, your boss, your friends or flatmates, your children or your parents why you just want some time out.I THINK YOU JUST ENTERED THE CHILL OUT ZONE.What would you do with this time? Something relaxing, or energising, or just 10 minutes to spend sitting on the toilet reading a book? The time is yours do with as you see fit. Treating yourself with kindness and compassion, rather than negative thoughts, a scattered mind, and the constant feeling of not having enough time for yourself.
So I encourage you to give yourself a chill out pass every now and then. You deserve it.
