Seeing a Naturopathic Dietitian at New Leaf

If you’re planning on seeing a Dietitian at New Leaf here’s all the information you need to know about your appointment, claiming on Medicare or on your Private Health Insurance.

Our Accredited practising dietitian Jiayen is also a qualified naturopath, which means she approaches your treatment with wholistic and evidence-based knowledge.

Medicare Rebates for Dietetic Services

These details are correct as of Feb 2025.

Medicare offers rebates for dietetic services under specific care plans, reducing out-of-pocket expenses for patients. As of July 2024, the standard rebate is approximately $60.35 per session.

Eating Disorder Treatment Plan (EDP)

  • Requires a diagnosis of an eating disorder and meeting specific eligibility criteria
  • Provides rebates for up to 20 dietitian visits per year
  • Also covers up to 40 psychologist visits annually
  • Eligibility should be confirmed with a GP, psychiatrist, or paediatrician
  •  

Chronic Disease Management Plan

  • Offers rebates for up to 5 sessions per calendar year
  • Covers various healthcare professionals, including dietitian
  • The number of dietitian sessions is determined by the referring GP

Medicare Safety Net

To maximise rebates, patients are advised to register for the Medicare Safety Net. This program provides higher rebates once a certain threshold of out-of-pocket expenses is reached. Please refer to https://www.servicesaustralia.gov.au/ms016

Private Health Insurance Rebates for Dietetic Services

Many private health insurance policies offer rebates for dietetic consultations. The rebate amount varies depending on your specific fund and level of cover. To determine your eligibility and potential rebate:

  1. Contact your health fund
  2. Inquire about coverage for dietetic services
  3. Ask about the percentage of the consultation fee that will be rebated

Remember that you cannot claim both private health insurance and Medicare rebates for the same appointment. It’s advisable to check with your insurer before scheduling a consultation to understand your out-of-pocket expenses.

Payment Policy

Our practice does not offer bulk billing services. The payment process is as follows:

  1. Patients are required to pay the full fee for all appointments at the time of service.
  2. We will issue you a receipt via email
  3. Eligible patients may then claim a partial rebate from Medicare or their private health fund.
  4. The rebate amount depends on the specific care plan or insurance policy (as detailed in previous sections).

Please note that the rebate process is separate from the initial payment, and it is the patient’s responsibility to claim any applicable rebates after paying the full consultation fee.

Cancellation policy

Patients must notify us to cancel or reschedule their appointment with more than 24 hours notice to avoid incurring a fee. Please email to: gethealthy@new-leaf.com.au

  • A 50% cancellation fee will be charged for less than 24 hours notice.
  • A 100% cancellation fee will be charged for the day of the appointment or if you do not attend.
